Average Price Calculator Guide
How to Use the Average Price Calculator
This calculator helps you know your true average entry after every buy operation for the same asset, while instantly showing your total quantity and total cost.
First: What does the calculator do?
Overview
- The calculator is dedicated to one asset at a time (such as BTC or a specific stock).
- You record all of your buy trades on the same asset, with the buy price and quantity for each trade.
- At the bottom, it shows your average price at which you are roughly at breakeven, as well as your total quantity and total cost.
You can use these results to decide the best exit point, or to know the market price you need in order to recover your previous buy entries.
Second: Entering your buy trades
Filling the table
- Click the Add Row + button to open a new row in the table.
- In each new row:
– Enter the quantity you bought (for example 0.25).
– Enter the buy price for that quantity (for example 1100). - You can repeat this step for every buy trade you made on the same asset.
- If you want to remove a specific trade, click the Delete button in the Action column for that row.
As soon as you enter the quantity and buy price, the results at the bottom update automatically without needing to click any calculate button.
Third: Reading the results at the bottom of the calculator
Instant results
- Total quantity: The sum of all quantities you entered in the table.
- Total cost: The sum of (quantity × buy price) for each row.
- Average price (without fees): Calculated automatically by dividing total cost by total quantity. This is the approximate breakeven price.
Total quantity = sum of quantities
Total cost = sum of (price × quantity)
Average price = total cost ÷ total quantity
Note: The displayed value is without including platform fees, and you can approximate or add the fee effect manually if you like.
Fourth: Clearing and printing the table
Additional options
- Use the Clear average rows button to erase all rows and reset the calculator to its initial state.
- The Print / view table button lets you preview all rows and their results in a page that is ready for printing or saving as a PDF file.
This calculator is available for free to all users and is an essential tool for anyone who uses averaging in their entry and exit prices.
